| Jay continued refining the sculpt, adding a rear collar similar in design to the collar seen briefly in Episodes V and VI, which was also echoed in the design of the Episode III Vader helmet. After he had finished modeling the final details, and confident that the design was pretty close, eFX paid a visit to Ralph McQuarrie to show him our progress and solicit his comments. Ralph was very happy with the images and liked the addition and the details on the rear collar. He felt it was extremely close to his painting and faithful to his design and style. A few minor tweaks were all that would be required before we could sign off on the design work. Jay made the refinements and Bryan ordered a .45 scale SLA (Stereolithography) model to be output so that we could check the integrity of the design actually worked in three dimensions. eFX took this to Ralph to get his and Lucasfilm’s final approvals and sign off, before we output the full size model which was displayed at San Diego International Comic Con in July of 2008 and which is used now being used to generate the production molds at our factory in China. |
